| Local Projects Carrie's Heart supports children with disabilities in both the local and global community. An exciting new project benefiting children in our local community is Project Potential. In addition Carrie's Heart special events & fundraising events are activities that are inclusive of all children, their families & their communities. International Projects Our international projects are currently focused primarily on the Yucatan region of Mexico. Specifically Carrie's Heart is working with families and programs (educational, therapy, community, local government agencies etc.) in Cozumel, communities along the Riviera Maya and into the Southern Mayan Zone in the state of Quintana Roo. Our overall goal of our projects in the Yucatan is to help improve the education and quality of life of children with disabilities in the region. International Program Visits Needs Assessment A needs list for each program including teaching materials and therapeutic equipment is created. New and used donations are collected and delivered to programs. Distribution of Donations Donations of school supplies, teaching materials and therapy equipment are collected and allocated to programs to be used for program development. Collaboration with Local Professionals During program visits Carrie's Heart and local professionals collaborate about program needs, development, methodology and strategies. Advocacy & Awareness Carrie's Heart projects offer opportunities to advocate for the rights and needs of the disabled within the communities that we are serving. Child Find Missions & The Valerie Project Carrie's Heart has begun working with local nonprofit and governmental organizations in the Yucatan region of Mexico on child find missions. During these missions home visits are made in the local community to families of children with severe disabilities. The goal of these missions is to identify children who are in need of resources including nutritional supplements, personal care items, adaptive equipment and basic medical supplies. Through the Valerie Project & the Valerie Project Sponsorship Program, we have begun working with local organizations and individual sponsors to help provide resources, coordinate needed medical care & therapy and provide education for parents and communities on the needs of these children. |
